Pregnancy and Postpartum Care

Physical therapy plays a crucial role in supporting women during pregnancy and the postpartum period. Common issues include musculoskeletal pain, pelvic floor dysfunction, and changes in posture and mobility due to hormonal and physical changes. By addressing pain, improving function, and supporting overall wellness, physical therapists help new mothers navigate this transformative period with confidence.

Musculoskeletal issues are treated with gentle techniques to relieve lower back, hip and pelvic pain. Postural education, breathing exercises, strengthening exercises for the core and pelvic floor, and preparation for childbirth are instructed.

Postpartum therapy focuses on pelvic floor rehabilitation for incontinence, prolapse, pubic symphysis dysfunction, and abdominal recovery for rectus diastasis. Any residual pain or movement dysfunctions are treated with movement training, postural control and body mechanics required for caring for the baby are instructed.
